Too cool for school!

September 2, 2012 by Kate 2 Comments

‘Can’t believe my lil man starts big school next week.’

‘It all just goes way too quick.’

I’ve said that A LOT this past week…..

‘Have you blogged it?’ Says @theboyandme ‘……it’s such a momentous occasion’

‘I want to write a post about it, but I can’t bring myself to do it’, says I.

I have to admit, I’ve never been the parent that cries buckets leaving their babies at nursery and counting the hours until they’ll be reunited.

I’m more like the one gaily skipping home looking forward to drinking a ‘hot’ coffee and making toast that I’ll actually get to eat!!!

Its not that I don’t love my babies with all my heart. I do, totally.

However, I do value the time I have to myself, even if it means working. That’s now my ‘me time’ and I’m grateful for it.

It might sound a little selfish, but I do value time to be grown up (well, sort of) me again! I also couldn’t enjoy my job more at the moment and am really loving the time I’m able to spend at the Centre.

But, as happy as I am to send them both off to pre-school, I am struggling with the whole proper school thing.

Pre-school was a great balance. A couple of days where I could work and Lil Man and Lil Miss get to go have fun with their friends. There was still always plenty of time for us to do stuff together, go to playgroups, playbarns, out for coffee, etc.

This ALL changes next week.  For the first time ever, I’m sure I’ll shed a little tear on the walk home.

Its just so permanent. Lil Man’s attendance will be required at school every week from Monday to Friday (except for school holidays) from now until he is 18!!

It means Lil Man is a proper grown up boy now!

It’s such a big thing. I’m going to miss him so much, but I am also really excited for him.

I’ve seen him grow in confidence and skills every time he’s moved to a different setting and I just know he’s going to come on leaps and bounds, once he’s got over the initial shock of having to go every day that is!

When I persuaded him to try his school uniform I wanted to get a snapshot of it! I’m not one for keeping up with the Joneses but everyone else is posting nice pictures of their littlies on Facebook and for once I thought it would actually be nice to have one pic of Lil Man doing the same. All togged up in his brand new school uniform to mark the occasion.

He wasn’t keen on putting his full uniform all on, but I finally managed to persuade him and did think I might be able to get a quick shot of him in all his get up.

And get the shot I did…..but, not ‘quite’ how I expected.

I definitely wasn’t expecting to be mooned!!!!

Cheeky boy!!

You’re so right, although to be fair to Lil Man, he’s settled so well, we couldn’t have asked for anything more. I do miss him though :0(
